Non-Vital Loads

چکیده
It is a well-known fact that cache hits are vital to superscalar processor performance. The successful execution of a load allows resources to be freed up and it also allows dependent instructions to proceed to execution. As processor cores operating frequencies rise rapidly, the cache hierarchy is struggling to keep up in terms of speed while still trying to provide good hit rates, because the two technologies are progressing at vastly different paces. The problem could be partly alleviated by not blindly putting data into the cache. We find that not all loads are vital to the performance of the processor. In this work we present a theoretical study of various possible categories of loads and scrutinize their vitality. We term these loads as non-vital loads. The data corresponding to these non-vital loads could be removed from the group competing for vital cache space. We found that 75% of all dynamic loads are nonvital and not critical to the performance of the processor for the Spec95 Suite. We followed this by increasing all 75% of their latencies and witnessed negligible performance degradation.

New generation of wireless networks, LTE and WiMAX, supports many services which consume a lot of resources (such as VOIP, Video Conference, Digital Video, Multimedia streams and online Multi-player Games). Supporting multi-media services in wireless communication systems provide new resource allocation challenges. Because of high loads in downlink, efficient resource allocation is vital in dow...
متن کاملThe effect of α1-antitrypsin deficiency combined with increased bacterial loads on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease pharmacotherapy: A prospective, parallel, controlled pilot study
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is caused by α1-antitrypsin deficiency (AATD) genetic susceptibility and exacerbated by infection. The current pilot study aimed at studying the combined effect of AATD and bacterial loads on the efficacy of COPD conventional pharmacotherapy. Fifty-nine subjects (29 controls and 30 COPD patients) were tested for genetic AATD and respiratory function....

متن کاملMechanical and Thermal Stresses in a FGPM Hollow Cylinder Due to Non-Axisymmetric Loads
In this paper, the general solution of steady-state two-dimensional non-axisymmetric mechanical and thermal stresses and mechanical displacements of a hollow thick cylinder made of fluid-saturated functionally graded porous material (FGPM) is presented. The general form of thermal and mechanical boundary conditions is considered on the inside and outside surfaces. A direct method is used to sol...
